Last Will and Testament of Neil McGillivray, 1884 MG 68
Neil McGillivray
Neil McGillivray was born about 1802 and emigrated from the Isle of Mull, Scotland, around 1830. He originally landed in King Township; however, he was unhappy with the isolation of the 200 acres he had purchased for 2 pounds. As a result, he traded it for a black cow, that proved almost useless as a dairy animal, before purchasing Lot 20, Concession 9 at the southwest corner of today’s Highway 27 and Major Mackenzie Drive in ca. 1830-1836 for 100 pounds. Neil married Flora Beaton in 1839 and they had 10 children: Neil Jr., Catherine (Cameron), Christina, Flora, Donald, Mary Jane (McDonald), Margaret (Creighton), William and 2 children that died in infancy. Neil died in 1884 and passed the farm onto his youngest son, William.
