Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tucker Wallace, 1st Post Master, 1883-1893, 2nd Post Master, 1896-1902

The Wallace Family of Woodbridge is the final pioneer family featured for Archives Awareness Week. Originally settling on Lot 10, Concession 8 in 1833 (present day area southeast of Hwy 27 and Hwy 7), Nathanial Wallace purchased the first plot of land for the Wallace family. The land was sold to George Frazier Wallace in 1842, who cleared the land for his six children and the family farm. The Wallace’s purchased land near Woodbridge in 1833 and it remained within the family, until it was sold in 1967 to investors. Pictured above are Robert Tucker Wallace and his wife Hannah M. Soden, descendants of the Wallace Family. Robert and his wife were postmasters of the Woodbridge Post Office (Robert from 1883-1893 and Hannah from 1893-1902), which was located in the Wallace Grocery Store during their postmaster tender.
