Photograph of York West District, Elder’s Mills and Burwick Women's Institutes, 1956, MG 10

The York West District Women's Institute celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 1951, at the Central United Church in Weston. It was attended by women from other local branches such as Burwick and Elder’s Mills, whose members gave a talk entitled “Milk is the Child’s Delight.” Honorary members were past presidents such as Mrs. W.O. Duncan and women dressed in attire from the year that their respective branches were organized, an idea that was repeated at the 55th Anniversary, as shown above. The York West District Women’s Institute disbanded in 1994.
