The Kleinburg Women’s Institute was organized in 1900 by Laura Rose, with the first meeting held at the Gobiel Hotel, Kleinburg. Nashville was added to the name in 1908, when several ladies from that community joined. Meetings were held monthly, and membership grew from 5-7 women in 1900, to 10 in 1906, 43 in 1910-1911 and 44 in 1914-1916. One of the main tasks of the Kleinburg-Nashville Women’s Institute was documenting the history of the local area. As a result, their fonds, and the Tweedsmuir History they compiled, contain many references to local building and families, such as the Watson family pictured above.
