Scan of Burwick Women's Institute Meeting Programme with a speaker from the Navy League, 1943-44, MG 15
Originally known as the “Woodbridge Junior Institute”, the Burwick Women’s Institute was established in 1925, following the end of a short course offered to women in the community. In 1938, the group was re-named to ‘Burwick’, in honour of the Village of Woodbridge’s former name. During World War II, the Burwick Women’s Institute was active throughout the community. They contributed money to various charities and groups, sent supplies overseas, and made ditty bags for the Navy League. At a special meeting held at the Orange Hall in Woodbridge in 1945, a representative from the Navy League presented the branch with a framed certificate in appreciation of their dedication and donation.
