The Maple Women’s Institute was one of the earliest Women’s Institutes organized in Ontario. The first meeting of this group was held on May 31, 1904, at the Maple Public Library, though other records indicate that it started as early as 1898. A total of 23 women were present at the inaugural meeting, where Mrs. Torrance of Quebec spoke about “The Apple and its Relation to Domestic Comfort” and Miss Shuttleworth spoke about “Cold Dishes for Summer Use.”
