Nashville’s name stems from Jonathon Scott, who emigrated from Nashville, Tennessee. Before he and his wife came to Vaughan, the community was known as East’s Corners. It developed around the railway station that was built in 1870, rather than industry, which was more common.

As of 1890, there were two roads leading to the railway station from the east, along which business were built. On one road to the station, which travelled through Henry Howland’s farm, there was a hotel and a grain elevator. Other local businesses at this time that were based along the other road included a lumber yard and grain elevator and a blacksmith’s shop. In 1916, hydro came to the village. Some families that contributed prominently to the economic development of Nashville include the Agars, Bernaths, McNeils, Devins, Kurtzs, Pattersons and Dalziels.

Nashville’s post office opened in 1881 with Matthew East as the first postmaster. Later operators of the post office included Mr. Everton Lorne Bernath (1938-45), Mrs. Marion Estelle Far (1945-52) and Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Hennessey (1952-69).

Though Nashville and Kleinburg originated as separate villages, Nashville and its historical buildings were later subsumed into Kleinburg as it grew.
