The first settlers in the Concord area were the Fisher and Oster families. In 1846, the Johnstone Brothers built a store on the southeast corner of Lot 6, Concession 3 (present area northeast of Keele and Centre Streets) for Peter Oster. It was occupied by Richard Love until 1853, followed by Henry McElroy.
The name for Concord is believed to have come from Hiriam White, who emigrated from Vermont, where there is a small community that is also named Concord. The first post office was established in the village in 1854, with John Duncan overseeing it and the railway station was originally named Thornhill, until it was later changed. The town also had a blacksmith shop on the corner of Lot 8, Concession 3. Once buggies and wagons were built in the blacksmith shop, they travelled to a nearby a paint shop to be finished.
In 1922, Fred Miller built two greenhouses in Concord, known as the Concord Floral Company. They were one of the biggest rose manufacturers in Canada, but due to urbanization it became more difficult to find workers and the property was later sold to real estate developers and the greenhouse demolished in 2012.
