Photograph of S.S. No 18, Burrlington School

The community of Burrlington was located in the north lots of Concession 9 (present day lands within King Vaughan Road, Hwy 27, Elgin Mills and Huntington Road) and the first recorded settler was William Gaffney, whose daughter Katherine was born on Lot 32 in July 1848. He was soon joined in the area by William Graham and Rowland Burr, who purchased the west half of Lot 30 and the west half of Lot 31, on the same concession, respectively. Both Graham and Burr bult mills on their properties, leading to a contest and later, litigation over the rights to the water that led to their properties. Eventually, these properties were subdivided into smaller portions and sold off, with the village no longer in existence today.
