Being in the Air Force was one of the most dangerous positions during the war, with many losing their lives. In an interview published in the Vaughan Weekly News in 1994, Thompson made the following remark: “One day a fellow would be at breakfast with you and the next he wasn’t. The war waited for no one and there wasn’t enough time to spend worrying about dying.” Though extremely dangerous, the Bomber Command of the RCAF played a critical role throughout the Second World Ward. They weakened German defences by attacking their coastal defences and lines of communication. In addition to serving offensively, bomber pilots delivered food and other essential supplies after fighting ceased.
