Photograph of plane crash

This excerpt from “York County Men and Women Who Gave Their Lives in World War II, Book 2,” lists Henry Levy and his untimely death at 21. A member of the RCAF, Levy joined the service with two friends he had met at Harbord Collegiate Institute in Toronto in 1940: David Axler and Murray Cohen. Many residents of Thornhill commuted to Toronto daily for work and school. As being a pilot was one of the most dangerous roles a serviceman could occupy, many recruits did not make it to see any wartime action. Levy, along with both his friends Axler and Cohen, died during RCAF training.
