During the Second World War, multiple boot patterns were developed for members of the RCAF. These patterns evolved over time to help troops better adapt to the extreme conditions they faced regularly. Frostbites were a major concern, as pilots had to fly at high altitudes, facing cold weather and strong winds. The boots were often constructed from leather and lined with warm materials, such as sheepskin. Boots made for the RCAF were also commonly used by other members of the British RAF. Size was denoted on the sole or behind the tongue of the zipper.
