Photograph of the Maple Airport
Photograph of the Maple Airport, where Marion Orr established an airfield and flying school, following the end of the Second World War.
The opening of this airport was originally contested. The citizens of Maple started a petition and By-law 1811 was passed in 1953 by the Township of Vaughan to prevent the construction of an airport, landing ground, flying school or any business involving aircraft within Maple. Not satisfied with this decision, Orr borrowed a car and drove to Ottawa to see Prime Minister Louis St. Laurent. With his support, she had By-law 1811 rescinded and was able to build the airfield and flying school.
