This target map depicts Le Fresne-Camilly, France in August of 1944, located about 10 kilometres south of Juno Beach. Construction began on a RCAF airfield at this location, less than 96 hours after the D-Day landings and it was operational by June 17. From the time this airfield was constructed until July 19, 1944, when a nearby commune was taken by the Allies, it was under fire by German forces. This location housed the 121 Wing of the British RAF (including 245 Squadron), 123 Wing of the RAF and 129 Wing of the RAF and other ground units. In addition to military personnel, the airfield also hosted many aircraft, including single-engine planes (Spitfires and Typhoons) and double-engine transports (C-47 Dakotas).
