Commemorative City Coin
In honour of Vaughan obtaining City Status, commemorative coins were produced to celebrate the creation of Ontario’s 51st City. The face of each coin contained the City of Vaughan’s Crest, a historic emblem created in the late 1860s, representing Vaughan’s agrarian roots with a sheaf of wheat, hammer, anvil and loom. The reverse of the coin featured an image of Vaughan Township Hall, which was built in 1845 and was the first seat of local government from 1850-1943.
