Vaughan is Region's First City, 1990
In advance of the formalization of Vaughan’s City Status, local newspapers paid tribute to the history of Town and its evolution since the inception as a Township in 1850. As the first municipality to attain City Status in York Region, Vaughan led the way in population growth and development for over 21 years with Markham and Richmond Hill, attaining City Status in 2012 and 2019 respectively.
