Christmas at Woodbridge United Church, 1973

The United Church in Woodbridge is believed to have been built in 1836, on land that had been donated two years previously by Washington Peck, a cooper. The church overlooks the Humber Valley from its position on Church Street and contains an old Methodist cemetery. The church has been referred to by many other names in the historical records of the Yonge Street circuit including Vaughan Branch, Bunt’s Chapel and Peck’s Appointment. The original log church was replaced by a brick one in 1856, which was then replaced again following the Methodist union in 1883, with a larger church on Eighth Avenue. The photograph above depicts Christmas at the Woodbridge United Church in 1973.
