Primitive Methodist Hope United Church, 1963
William Craddock of Wales and Jane Heyworth of England came to Canada in 1832 and were married in 1835. As there was no church in the vicinity of their land, which was located on Lot 24, Concession 4, they donated land for a church and cemetery. The building was originally made from logs, as well as the pews and pulpits. The building was lit by wax candles, which were made by members of the congregation and different families were responsible for cleaning the building. In 1870, the log building was replaced by a brick building at Lot 29, Concession 4, and use of the old cemetery was discontinued after 1891. The photograph above is from 1963, shortly before the church closed in 1966.
