Pine Grove Congregational Church

Pine Grove Chapel, as the church was originally called, was founded in 1841. The Chapel was a frame church, built on a hill that overlooked Pine Grove, with the land being donated by George Stegmann, the brother of land surveyor John Stegmann. The church originally consisted of just nine members. In 1861, the congregation began to discuss the prospect of a church that was located more conveniently on Islington Avenue, leading to the Church being moved in 1866. It lasted until 1902, when the church burned. The following year the church was rebuilt on the same site. In 1957, the Pine Grove Congregation Church became the Pine Grove Baptist Church, and the cemetery was restored by the Township of Vaughan in 1968. The photograph above is of the Pine Grove Church congregation.
