Thornhill United Church

The Thornhill United Church, pictured above, traces its beginnings to 1803, when preaching began to be held regularly in the home of Benjamin Hoshel, near Langstaff. Services were later held in a variety of locations, including the Cober Schoolhouse, followed by a lot donated by Elizabeth Lyons, the west side of Yonge Street and then Centre Street West. The congregation first joined the Methodist Church, with the union in 1883, and then later the United Church in 1925. The cornerstone of the new church was laid in 1957.
