Fisherville Church, ca. 1960s
The Fisherville United Church was established as a Presbyterian church in 1856, with services previously being held in homes and other buildings. The building exterior was originally made of rough material and the pews were made of wood, which were uncomfortable enough to keep worshipers awake. Due to dwindling numbers, the church closed in 1910, but it was reopened in 1915 as a laboratory had been built nearby, which brought more parishioners. In 1925, it entered the union with the United Church of Canada and remained a member until 1960 when it was closed. The aerial photograph above depicts the Fisherville United Church around the time of the closing.
