War Savings Certificate issued to Doris M. Baker
This Canadian War Savings Bond or “Victory Bond” from 1941 was issued to Doris M. Baker in the amount of five dollars. War Savings Certificates and Victory Bonds were issued during the First and Second World Wars as a way for citizens at home to help fund the war effort. Certificates were sold door-to-door by volunteers as well as at post offices, banks and trust companies throughout the Township. Citizens of Vaughan, including Doris Baker, supported the war effort financially by lending the government money, with the understanding of collecting the principal plus interest seven years following the war.
