Burwick Women’s Institute Program, 1943-1944
Photograph of the Burwick Women’s Institute Meeting Programme from 1943-1944. Of note is the meeting on Oct. 19, 1943, where Women’s Institute members handed in “ditty bags.” Similar to care packages made for soldiers fighting overseas on land, the ditty bag was comprised of everything sailors might need in their line of duty, including socks, gum and books. Organizations such as the Navy League then arranged for the distribution of these items to members of the Canadian Navy.
