Private A.S. Willison

Image of an excerpt from “York County Men and Women Who Gave Their Lives in World War I, Volume 2” includes an obituary for Private A.S. Willison, a member of the 175th Battalion and the 175th Battalion badge. Like many Japanese Canadians who wished to serve, Willison had difficulty enlisting for the war in his home county of York and travelled out west (in his case to Alberta) to join the Great War. Upon being recruited, Japanese Canadians were segregated into four battalions: the 13th, the 175th (which Willison was a member of), the 191st and the 192nd.
