Maple Orchestra fonds

Photograph of the Maple Orchestra Fonds. The Maple Orchestra was originally formed in 1985 by Ilse Thompson, a resident of Maple and graduate of the University of Toronto’s Music Education Program. Ms. Thompson was a music teacher and writer of the column “Maple Leaves,” in the Vaughan Weekly newspaper. This orchestra was comprised of members from Thompson’s music night class, which formed in 1976. Members included Vaughan residents, as well as individuals from Bracebridge, Sutton, Barrie, Tottenham and Campbellville. The orchestra performed in the Region of York, until it was disbanded in 1995, with much of its membership being absorbed by the York Chamber Orchestra. The fonds spans the years 1985-1995 and is comprised of meeting minutes, programmes, invitations and flyers, general observations and critiques made by the orchestra director, newspaper clippings and photographs.
