Jun., 2018: Vaughan Workers’ Social Club fonds

Established in the early 1930s, the Vaughan Workers’ Social Club was formed in response to the economic and social disorder caused by the Great Depression (1929-1939). During its operation, the club served as a benevolence agency to its membership and its aims were “to create a friendly spirit and to harmonize among our members and friends, to help the needy members and where possible to try to get amusements for girls and boys of our social club”. This fragmentary fonds consists of a single minute book, containing information about club events, expenses and the state of the community from 1935-1938.
