May, 2019: Thornhill Women's Institute fonds
Formed in February of 1902, the Thornhill Women’s Institute was one of the many branches of the Federated Women’s Institute of Ontario (FWIO), established within Vaughan to promote female endeavours and to capture and preserve local community history. Developed as a means for women to gather, converse, and work together, the Thornhill branch fostered a sense of community, while working towards the growth and empowerment of all women. Like the other branches of the FWIO, the branch also compiled Tweedsmuir Village Histories, which recorded the local history of the community as well as the branch itself. The fonds spans the years 1902-1997 and consists of six Tweedsmuir Village Histories, minute books, membership lists, financial statements, photographs, and over 200 cm of textual records.
