Apr., 2016: Nashville Grain Elevator Fire, 1919
Grain elevators played an important role within Nashville during the early 1900s, allowing farmers to grow grain as a cash crop. Working with grain and milling created an excess of dust, making the potential for fires a constant threat to grain elevators. This image shows the Nashville Grain Elevator (owned by the Canada Grain Company), which suffered a devastating fire on July 15th, 1919, burning the structure right to the ground.
