Aug., 2018: Jacob Rupert House
This historic home, known as the Rupert or “Round House”, was constructed in 1860 by local businessman Jacob Rupert. Located on lot 21, concession 4 (present day 2600 Major Mackenzie Drive), this unique building is one of the few remaining octagonal homes in Canada. Built with eight equal sides, the shape and layout of the house was thought to make heating and lighting more efficient in the home. This property is included in Vaughan’s Listing of Buildings of Architectural and Historical Value and designated under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act.
