Sept., 2018: Castator Family Photos, Woodbridge Public School - SR IV (Grade 8)

This photo of Mr. Shore’s Grade 8 Woodbridge Public School class is an excellent example of the 1930s process of school system amalgamation and the rise of multi-room schools. Originally a one-room schoolhouse, Woodbridge P.S. (S.S. No 14) was eventually rebuilt to include a large four-room brick school which could accommodate more students from the surrounding area. Originally located on part of lot 8, concession 8 (present day Kipling and Porter Avenue area), a more modern school was erected in 1945 on Burwick and Lansdown Avenues. The building pictured here was partly burnt in 1949 and eventually renovated and occupied by Hydro. Pictured here in rows from front to back, right to left: Row 1: Jessie Draper, Tom Timmerman, Florence Lindsay, Paul ?, Eric ?, Wilda Huson, Peter McLean; Row 2: Betty Maynard, Doris Ring, John Shumack, John Wallace, Irene Farman, Wilbert Tayles, Howard ?, Joyce Kitchener, Murray Ireland, Wilbert McLean; Row 3: Bob Hollingshead, Jones ?, Elwood Draper, unknown, Eleanor McKay, Jim Pidgeon, Elenna Jones, Olive Wilcox, unknown, Ernie Ring; Row 4: unknown, Bob McLean, Kay Farman, Doug Ostrander, unknown, Connie Ross, unknown, unknown, unknown; Row 5: unknown, unknown, unknown, Thelma Uppington, unknown, unknown, unknown.
