Sept., 2020: Burwick Women's Institute Fonds (1925-1996)

Established in 1925 as the Woodbridge Junior Institute, the Burwick Women's Institute is one of the numerous branches of the Federated Women's Institute of Ontario (FWIO), created to preserve and capture local community histories and promote female endeavours. Like other branches of the FWIO, the Burwick branch compiled Tweedsmuir Village Histories, which recorded the local history of the Woodbridge community as well as of the branch itself. The organization was engaged in several programmes over the years, including social welfare, agriculture, and assisting the Red Cross before it disbanded in 1996. The Burwick Women's Institute fonds spans the years 1925-1996 and consists of 2.65 metres of textual records and includes cashbooks, ledgers, financial documents, minute books, programmes, correspondence, historic scrapbooks and a photo album.
