Nov., 2017: Leon Joseph Coward fonds
The Leon Joseph Coward fonds is one of the City of Vaughan Archives’ smaller collections, consisting of six items which once belonged to the Kleinburg native. Private Coward was a member of the 21st Canadian Regiment and saw active service with the Canadian Corps in Europe during the “Great War” (1914-1918). Spanning the years 1910-1987, the fonds consists of birth certificates, a discharge certificate from the Canadian Expeditionary Force and portrait photographs (one of which includes Private Coward along with a saluting Sir Arthur William Currie as the 2nd Canadian Division crosses the Rhine at Bonn, Germany in December of 1918).
