Sept., 2018: Constable School Records

The Constables were one of Vaughan Township’s early families, settling in 1841 on lot 16, concession 6 (present day Langstaff and Weston Road area). Several years after his arrival in Vaughan, William Constable married Mary Jackson and the two quickly started a family, having four children Bruce, Herbert, Mary and George. This collection is comprised of school records belonging to the Constable children and consists of 8.5cm of textual documents. Included in the collection are assignments, tests and examination papers, day planners, notebooks, textbooks and daily attendance registers from Vellore School (S.S. No 9). Interestingly, these records were uncovered during a stage three archaeological assessment in Vaughan during 2011, when the records were found in a box of an abandoned farmhouse on the Constable property.
