Oct., 2013: Aerial of Flooding in Woodbridge following Hurricane Hazel (1954)

In Ontario and the eastern half of North America, the winter of 1935-1936 was harsh, with lower than normal temperatures and a large accumulation of snow. The spring of 1936 was equally severe, causing serious flooding to areas of York Region and the north-eastern United States. On March 13th, residents and business owners in Woodbridge, found themselves completely cut off from their neighbours by raging water from both the spring thaw and Humber River. Covering the streets, sidewalks and in some cases the ground floor of cottages, the water reached depths of up to three feet. Pictured above is an aerial of the flooding in Woodbridge on October 15, 1954.
