Electric Rail Transportation, [n.d.]

In 1910 the Toronto Suburban Electric Railway Company decided to extend its Weston line to Woodbridge. The railway officially opened in 1914 and ran until 1924. In addition to providing passenger service between Woodbridge and Toronto, there was also an express train called the “milk wagon car”, which was reserved for farmers shipping milk to the city. The increased use of automobiles led to the cancellation of passenger trolley service; however, freight service continued to operate into the 1930s. The photograph above shows one of the passenger trains travelling alongside Wallace Street in Woodbridge.
