Jean Bryson, Tudor Cannon
Sketch of a Tudor period cannon by Jean Bryson. Jean Bryson (nee Keffer) was born December 1922 in Vaughan Township. Jean was a descendant (the sixth generation) of Jacob Keffer who travelled from Pennsylvania to Vaughan in 1806. She attended Maple Public School, Vaughan Collegiate Institute and Toronto Normal School. Jean taught at Pine Grove Public School from 1943 to 1946 and at C.B. Parsons Public School from 1949 to 1952. She married Jesse Bryson in 1948, and they had two children. An avid historian, Jean was the Tweedsmuir Convener, as well as President of the Vellore Women’s Institute in 1946. She led the 4-H Club and worked to get the History of Vaughan Township by George Elmore Reaman published after the author’s death. She served on the Research Committee of the newly formed Vaughan Historical Society in 1970 and was secretary from 1971 to 1972.
