Thoreau MacDonald, Sketch of Wooden Pail

Black and white sketch of a pail by Thoreau MacDonald. Thoreau MacDonald was the son of Group of Seven Artist and Vaughan resident J.E.H. MacDonald. Thoreau possessed his father's love of Canada's natural beauty and expressed his appreciation in oil paintings, watercolours, sketches and sculpture. He was mostly self-taught and many of his works are in black and white as Thoreau was colour blind. He was also a book designer and worked predominantly for Ryerson Press in Toronto until his retirement in 1960. He died in Thornhill in 1989, in the historic J.E.H. MacDonald House, named after his father.
