Bowes Family
Anthony Bowes (1789-1870), his wife Ellen, and their children came to Vaughan Township in 1831. They settled on Lot 3, Concession 2 (present day Bathurst Street and Steeles Avenue West). Bowes also bought Lot 7, Concession 2 in 1840 and farmed it with his children. Other Bowes family members farmed Lots 10 and 11 on Concession 3. Bowes family farms existed in Vaughan into the 1950s.
