Baker Family

In 1802, Mary Baker arrived in York County with six children and some of her grandchildren. Mary’s husband, Jacob, had become lost on the journey from Pennsylvania. The Bakers settled near Carrville and have owned Lot 11, Concession 2 and Lot 13, Concession 2 (present day area northeast of Dufferin Street and Highway 7) since 1816 and 1829, respectively. Pictured above is Isaac Baker, great-grandson of Mary and Jacob, working on a horse collar in his harness shop. Isaac lived and worked from his home workshop on the family plot (Lot 11, Concession 2), before building a leather shop in 1930.
