Loon Pair with Male Calling (Wailing)

Morning LIght on the Lake, Montana

Loons are known to have four different types of calls:

Wail - somewhat halting cadence, to communicate

Tremolo - "laughing", a.k.a. "crazy call" to signal alarm

Yodel - done by the males, distinctive, territory defense, during aggressive encounters

Hoots - soft communication for family, to stay in touch
