Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus) at Dusk

Rocky Mountains Front Range, Colorado, American West

This owl was preening with its head down against one of its wings. I came over a ridge and saw it about 15 feet away and it did not see me. It was facing away from me. But when it finished preening, it turned its head toward me. It startled and this is the look it gave me (which may just be its normal expression)! ;)
