Völklingen Classic

A train of liquid iron-laden sixteen-axled cars in front of the impressing setting of Völklingen metallurgical plant, long since shut down and made a world cultural heritage.

The liquid iron however is now transported from the steel mill at Dillingen to Völklingen and the nearby rolling plant where it is further processed to a broad amount of (mostly) semifinished steel products.

These trains run on a roughly two hour schedule day and night, 7/7, 365/12.

Each of these cars is 30 m long and is capable of a 192 t load of liquid iron, no challenge for an engine like the 151 class.

The train in this image has a total weight of ± 2000 t.
