Grotta di Pan Villa Marlia
La Grotta di Pan di Villa Reale è il più antico ninfeo delle ville lucchesi. Fu realizzato tra il 1570 e il 1580 ed è dedicato a Pan, dio dei pastori, della campagna e delle selve, dalle sembianze per metà umane e metà animalesche.
La costruzione, che in origine apparteneva al giardino della Villa del Vescovo, è attribuibile a Bernardo Buontalenti o a un architetto sotto la sua influenza. Il piano superiore fu aggiunto durante la prima metà dell’Ottocento per volere di Carlo Ludovico di Borbone.
The Grotta di Pan of Villa Reale is the oldest nymphaeum of the Lucca villas. It was built between 1570 and 1580 and is dedicated to Pan, god of shepherds, of the countryside and of the woods, with half human and half animalistic features.
The building, which originally belonged to the garden of the Villa del Vescovo, is attributable to Bernardo Buontalenti or to an architect under his influence. The upper floor was added during the first half of the nineteenth century at the behest of Charles Louis of Bourbon.
