Varie sono le ipotesi su chi siano veramente (cortigiane? dee?), fatto sta che sono uniche: sprizzano sensualità e nello stesso tempo grazia. Originariamente dovevano essere più di 500, ma pare che alcuni monaci che vissero per un certo periodo di tempo presso la rocca, distrussero gran parte di questi affreschi, essendo motivo per loro di turbamento e distrazione dalla preghiera.
