Kunya-Ark Citadel
Kunya Ark è una fortezza all'interno della città fortificata di Itchan Kala a Khiva. La fortezza era la residenza dei sovrani di Khiva ed essendo una sede reale era munita di tutto, dall'harem alla moschea. Caratteristica la moschea d'estate caratterizzata da un'imponente architettura con sei colonne. Il soffitto in legno è molto colorato e le pareti ricoperte da piastrelle bianche e blu raffiguranti motivi geometrici e vegetali. La nicchia o porta verso la Mecca (mihrab) è esposta a sud e non verso la Mecca, come prescriverebbe la regola. Oggi l'edificio è un museo.
Kunya Ark is a fortress within the fortified city of Itchan Kala in Khiva. The fortress was the residence of the kings of Khiva and being a royal home was equipped with everything from the harem to the mosque. The mosque in summer is characterized by an imposing architecture with six columns. The wooden ceiling is very colorful and the walls covered with white and blue tiles depicting geometric and plant motifs. The niche or gateway to Mecca (mihrab) is exposed to the south and not to Mecca, as the rule would prescribe. Today the building is a museum.
