Hardly any other motif represents the classical doctrine of the four elements better than an active volcano, in this case Villarrica in southern Chile (2,847 metres above sea level). It never completely rests and is the most active and dangerous volcano in Chile. It has erupted fifty times in the last five hundred years, most recently in 2019. At the time the photo was taken, climbing to the crater rim was prohibited.
Villarrica lies on the border between the Araucanía and Los Ríos regions. North of the volcano are the town of Pucón and Lake Villarrica.

Er kommt nie ganz zur Ruhe und ist der aktivste und gefährlichste Vulkan Chiles. Er brach in den letzten fünfhundert Jahren fünfzigmal aus, zuletzt 2019. Zum Zeitpunkt der Aufnahme war der Aufstieg zum Kraterrand verboten.
Der Villarrica liegt der Grenze der Regionen Araucanía und Los Ríos. Nördlich des Vulkans befinden sich die Stadt Pucón und der See Lago Villarrica.
