Inverted glass pyramid of the Louvre under the Place du Carrousel (1er)
The film adaptation of Dan Brown's bestseller of the same name, directed by Ron Howard in 2003, combines real elements into a fantastic thriller, just like the book it is based on. At the end of the film, Professor Langdon, played by Tom Hanks, kneels down on the base of the pyramid visible at the top because the tomb of Mary Magdalene, and therefore the Holy Grail, is fictitiously located under the stone counterpart at the bottom.

Like the large entrance pyramid of the Louvre, the inverted pyramid was designed by the architect Ieoh Ming Pei
and opened to the public in 1993. Above ground, the pyramid is concealed behind hedges in the centre of the Place du Carrousel. Daylight enters the hall below through its transparent base, which is turned upwards.
Access is possible every day long after the shops have closed via the underground shopping centre ‘Carrousel du Louvre’ at 99 Rue de Rivoli until 10 pm. The last hour is a good time to take photos of the pyramid without visitors.

Die Verfilmung des gleichnamigen Bestsellers von Dan Brown unter der Regie von Ron Howard aus dem Jahre 2003 fügt wie die Vorlage reale Elemente zu einem phantastischen Thriller zusammen. Am Ende des Films kniet der von Tom Hanks dargestellte Professor Langdon auf der oben sichtbaren Grundfläche der Pyramide nieder, weil sich unter der steinernen Entsprechung am Boden fiktiv das Grab der Maria Magdalena und damit der Heilige Gral befinden soll.

entworfen und 1993 der Öffentlichkeit übergeben. Oberirdisch ist die Pyramide hinter Hecken in der Mitte der Place du Carrousel verborgen. Durch ihre nach oben gedrehte transparente Grundfläche fällt das Tageslicht in die darunter gelegene Halle.
Der Zugang ist täglich noch lange nach Schließung der Geschäfte über das unterirdisch angelegte Einkaufszentrum 'Carrousel du Louvre' in der Rue de Rivoli 99 bis 22 Uhr möglich. Zum Fotografieren der Pyramide ohne Besucher ist die letzte Stunde eine gute Gelegenheit.
