"Manolita Chen" - Beijing Dance Theatre
"Manolita Chen" is a choreography by Marcos Morau, the artistic director of the Spanish company La Veronal. It was created as a commissioned work in Beijing by invitation of the Beijing Dance Theatre and reflects impressions Morau gained while looking from the Far East towards the West. The title is a reference to the Chinese circus theatre founded by Chen Tse-Ping and Manolita Chen in 1950: a Spanish company with 50 international artists that toured for 40 years from 1950.

Sie entstand als Auftragswerk in Beijing auf Einladung des Beijing Dance Theaters und spiegelt Eindrücke wider, die Morau beim Blick von Fernost in Richtung Westen gewann. Der Titel ist eine Referenz an das von Chen Tse-Ping und Manolita Chen im Jahr 1950 gegründete chinesische Zirkustheater: ein spanisches Unternehmen mit 50 internationalen Künstlern, das ab dem Jahr 1950 40 Jahre lang Tourneen veranstaltete.
