Fire on a river: cormorant fishing

Cormorant fishing at Nagaragawa in Gifu has tradition of more than 1000 years. A fisherman, employed by the Imperial Household Agency, skillfully handle cormorants, which are held on lashes, dive and catch fishes. The man behind the fisherman manages the ship in a proper position. In this photo cormorants are difficult to be seen; they are mostly in the water.
