A magnificent Blakiston's fish owl catching a fish

A female Blakiston's fish owl was catching a fish in Rausu, Shiretoko, Hokkaido, Japan. Blakiston's fish owls (Ketupa blakistoni) are one of the largest owls, and are highly endandered. The activities of the owls are generally high from spring to autumn. I was told that the activity calms down with snow. However, we were fortunate, since even with snow a couple of the owls jumped into a small pond in a tiny river very frequently.
